In TTR’s test, the cooler for the i7-5930K reaches a temperature of 49° when overclocked to 4.0 GHz (1.2 V) and is only beaten by two water coolers by a few degrees.

What should we say?
The NH-D15 is a beast, and our hands-on test has confirmed this once again. In spite of the limited space and the resulting somewhat restricted airflow, it still scored better in direct comparison with the previously installed NZXT water cooling.
While the latter had difficulties keeping our moderately overclocked Ryzen 5 3600XT below 90°C after only 10 minutes of Prime 95, the CPU with the NH-D15 was still at a cool 80°C.
And thanks to the in-house 140mm NF-A15 fans, the noise level was also much quieter than with the AiO water cooling.
These only switch to the maximum speed of 1500 rpm at a temperature of >80°C, which was always noticeable during the Prime 95 run:
as soon as this threshold was reached, it briefly got a bit louder and the temperature immediately dropped again.

All of this, mind you, without the “low-noise” adapters, which minimizes the fan speed and of course the cooler achieves much worse results.
So if you are more interested in maximum performance, then definitely leave it out.

The sound of the NF-A15 fans is also noticeable. Whilst other fans tend to emit a low-frequency “hum” under full load, the Noctua fans emit a higher-frequency “hissing” or “hum”.

High frequencies are known to be easier to contain and don’t spread over the rest of the case, like low frequencies.

With the Assassin III, Deepcool has (finally) taken on the Noctua NH-D15 as the most powerful high-end air cooler on the market.
Good news for all overclockers who want something other than beige and brown in their case.
Nevertheless, according to our tests, the performance differences are only marginal, so Noctua fans don’t need to switch right away.
Also keep in mind that the Deepcool Assassin III is slightly more expensive than the Noctua top dog.
Regarding cooling performance, the Assassin III initially only beats the Noctua DH-15 by 1-2°C in TTR’s open-air benchmarks.
However, where the Assassin III really beats the Noctua is in case performance, when proper GPU load, heat and higher CPU clock rates (Ryzen 5 3600XT) come into play.
In these scenarios, the Assassin takes up to 7°C off the Noctua.
However, the Assassin III is a good 2 dbA louder under load.
The Assassin III is also a winner from an aesthetic point of view – the combination of polished cooling fins and black fans gives it the decisive advantage over the brown Noctua NH-D15 (a matter of taste, of course).
The Assassin III’s high manufacturing quality is also convincing: the materials used, the nickel plating and the fans are all of very high quality.
The only thing you’ll have to be careful with is the installation in combination with high RAM and possibly positioning the fans a bit higher.
All in all, there’s nothing to complain about except the extremely high price.
So if you’re looking for an alternative to the Noctua-DH15, this is your choice.
Temperatures of the 2n Best CPU Cooler for Ryzen 5 3600XT
All idle temperatures are measured by running the system idle in Windows for 20 minutes.
The load temperatures are achieved by running AIDA64 again using CPU, FPU and cache for 20 minutes.
This should give the CPU enough time to reach its maximum temperature.
During the test, all CPU fans are set to their maximum speed.
The tests were done in a closed case to simulate real values.
We have not included the idle temperatures in this diagram, as they were in the range of 5-10°C.
Under load, the Deepcool Assassin 3 is completely convincing as you can see.
It stays below 70°C even when overclocked to 5.0 GHz and with additional load on the graphic card.
Our tests at the competitor NH-D15 showed temperatures with higher values, even if only deviations of 2-3°C under maximum load.

The noise level is measured with our sound meter at a distance of 1 meter from the test system.
The cooler fans are set to their maximum speed.
The ambient noise level in the room was measured at 35.0 dB (A) and the peak noise level of the cooler is recorded in dB (A).
When idling, the fans of both coolers are practically not audible.
As soon as we’ve loaded the processor to 100%, the dbA value rises to around 47 dbA, which is around 3 dbA louder than the NH-D15.
As a comparison for you: a classroom or office has an average noise level of 50 dbA (moderate).
The interior of a car is at 70 dbA and is considered loud. So the Assassin 3 is still within the range with its 47 dbA, but is definitely audible.

With the Assassin III, Deepcool seems to have almost toppled the Noctua NH-D15 as the most powerful high-end air cooler on the market.
Nonetheless, the differences are partly marginal, so that enthusiastic Noctua fans might not have to switch over immediately.
Nonetheless, the Assassin III still impresses with its brute cooling performance and thus finally represents an alternative to Noctua’s long-time king.
Our impressions of the Assassin III are very good. From an aesthetic point of view, the Assassin III is a winner – the combination of polished cooling fins with spoilers and black fans gives it the decisive advantage over the brown Noctua NH-D15.
However, DeepCool has to dress warmly here, especially as Noctua is releasing more and more black versions of their fans.
The Assassin III’s build quality is also very high.
The materials used, the nickel plating and the manufacturing quality of the fans are all of very high quality.
No complaints here.
There’s also nothing to complain about during installation, the addition of a screwdriver is an extra bonus.
Overall, we are very impressed with the Assassin III.
Its appealing design and looks, paired with the outstanding cooling performance, give it the decisive advantage over the Noctua NH-D15.
As the prices for both are very similar, a difficult decision has to be made when comparing the two for purchase.
Considering what we learned from this review, we can recommend the Assassin III to anyone looking for a high-end air cooler.

In idle it is at a cool 27°C, under 100% load it goes up to 65°C and is about 6°C warmer than a NH-D15.
Can you use the Dark Rock 4 with an i9-9900K? This video shows: Yes, with limitations.
In an AIDA64 stress test, a system with i9-9900K at 77°C ran on basic clocking, which is absolutely acceptable (a Ryzen 2700X at 61°C).
Overclocked, however, it then goes up to 91°C, which is of course an extreme.
Where the Dark Rock 4 really scores is the noise level.
With 31 dbA under load, it really belongs to the quietest CPU coolers on the market.
The newer Dark Rock 4 offers a very nice combination of aesthetics, fantastic acoustics and a very reasonable cooling performance.
Therefore, Dark Rock 4 is aimed at people who want a really quiet CPU cooler and don’t expect an overclockable beast (although it is still capable of it).
Although Dark Rock 4 can be overclocked, we wouldn’t necessarily recommend it for absolute high-end processors like an i9.
