Best Laptops under 2500 Dollar: High-End Gaming & Work
Why should you buy a notebook for over 2000 Dollar? The most expensive laptops of today are really steep. Why is that? And who needs them? Let’s tell you.
Don’t think that manufacturers only stuff large desktop computers with the latest technology.
A look at the most expensive laptops in 2020 (and 2021) makes it clear: there seems to be no limit to the price of laptops.
Surely not many people will have the necessary change for the Acer Predator 21X, which was introduced last year for $10,000.
Nevertheless, there are arguments why these expensive notebooks have a right to exist.
We have rummaged through all offer and product ranges, among others.
We found the best Laptops under 2500$ for you.
These Laptops offer amazing performance and reliability for gamers and in a professional setting as a workstation.
Test Result: Best Laptop under $2500: High-End Gaming & Work
Best Laptop under $2500: Asus ROG Zephyrus G15
- High processing quality
- Massive CPU power & performance
- Long battery life
- Compact design
- No SD card slot
Best Laptop under 2500$
Fast, light, well manufactured – the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 shows how much potential gaming laptops really have and puts old clichés to the test.
Techtestreport clarifies what makes the new notebook with AMD processor so special in the test & how it could rank first in Best Laptops under 2500$.
Full performance despite compact design for the Best Laptop under 2500$
Although the Zephyrus G15 is only a 15-inch laptop, the metal casing of the gaming notebook houses a current eight-core processor from AMD: the Ryzen 9 4900HS.
The top model of AMD’s new mobile chips achieves clock rates of up to 4.3 GHz, and under full synthetic load the value levels off at around 3.0 GHz.
This ensures a solid score of 1,812 and 4,084 counters in Cinebench R15 and R20 respectively.
This puts the potential performance of the laptop processor at about the same level as that of the Ryzen 7 1800X – a desktop chip with 8 cores as well.
The synthetic gaming performance is also impressive.
In the Firestrike benchmark of 3DMark, the Asus ROG Zephyrus achieves a total score of a whopping 14,165 points.
The 1 TB PCIe SSD ensures that programs and games are started quickly and also offers more than enough storage space.
Windows 10 is already pre-installed on the laptop, as it shoudl for the Best Laptop under 2500$.
Aside from a test version of the McAfee anti-virus program, there are still a few Asus programs on the laptop ex works, which you need for controlling the Anime Matrix, among other things.
Bloatware is mostly – and thank goodness – searched for here in vain.
Thanks to the built-in 16 GB RAM, the gaming laptop never lacked RAM.
But what about the gaming performance of the gaming laptop?
Is the performance of the built-in Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060 in Max-Q design really sufficient to conjure up enough frames per second on the WQHD display?
We tested the performance in some games with high settings, and this is the result:
|Game||Graphics settings||Gaming performance|
|Hitman 2||medium high||64.1 FPS|
|Call of Duty: Warzone||high (without ray tracing)||67.1 FPS|
|Metro Exodus||high (ray tracing / DLSS)||50.2 FPS|
|Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (Deathmatch Dust2)||very high||152.8 FPS|
|Red Dead Redemption 2||Ultra (Full HD)||49.1 FPS|
Overall, the combination of a WQHD display with 60 Hz and the built-in hardware makes sense for the Best Laptop under 2500$.
Fast shooters and action games still don’t cut a good figure on the gaming laptop.
On the one hand, this is due to the display’s low refresh rate – 120 or 144 Hz would have been very nice – but especially the slow reaction time is noticeably negative.
The picture draws real streaks across the display when fast movements occur.
As a result, the overview gets lost in heated discussions, as the picture looks blurred despite the high resolution, not expected for the Best Laptop under 2500$.
In slow games like Red Dead Redemption 2 or strategy games this may hardly play a role, but in competitive multiplayer titles this circumstance causes a noticeable competitive disadvantage.
Thus, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 is only conditionally suitable for gaming in this constellation, despite its clever hardware.
At least there is an alternative: Asus also offers the gaming laptop with a Full-HD display, which boasts a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
At least one of the points of criticism could be eliminated with this.
The marathon runner among gaming laptops: Best Laptop under 2500$
While other gaming laptops run out of juice after a very short time away from the power outlet, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 still hasn’t run out of juice after a few hours, amazing endurance for the Best Laptop under 2500$.
The laptop lasted about 6 hours in office mode with reduced brightness and an enabled power saving mode. This is an absolute top value for a gaming notebook!
Usually, most of the devices already go down after two to three and a half hours.
The 76 Wh battery combined with the power-saving AMD processor ensures a really fantastic result.
However, if you really want to play on the road with the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15, you’ll only have fun for a short time.
After just under an hour and a half the laptop is at the end.
But this is quite common with such devices.
Especially since playing in battery mode isn’t recommendable anyway, as the laptop’s performance is greatly reduced here.
You can be happy if you just about exceed the 30 FPS limit.
So, if you want to play on the go, you should rather look for a place with an electrical outlet.
Good to know: The Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 comes with two chargers.
On the one hand, you’ll find a classic DC-IN charger in the box, which has to be connected in order to use the gaming laptop’s full performance.
At the same time, Asus also includes a more compact version with a USB-C port, which is super suitable for mobile use. This way, you always have the right power adapter at hand.
A real feast for the eyes: Best Laptop under 2500$
The Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 shows how beautiful a modern gaming laptop can look these days.
Looks are important for the Best Laptop under 2500$.
The metal case doesn’t only provide a high-quality look, but also a solid construction.
Nothing rattles or creaks here, everything seems very robust and stable.
The design is an optical eye-catcher, but at the same time it doesn’t look too playful, but almost sporty and elegant.
In other words: with this gaming laptop you can also sit down for a meeting with a clear conscience.
The only drawback: There is no small indentation on the lid that allows the laptop to be opened easily with one hand.
This is always a bit fiddly. An optical highlight for many might be the anime matrix on the back.
It consists of a total of 1,215 white mini-LEDs, which can display both pre-designed and specially constructed pictures and animations in pixel-optics.
When the screen is closed, the lettering “See Ya” lights up for a short time.
This is just a nice gimmick, but it makes the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 stand out from the competition.
In times in which gaming laptops sometimes resemble each other like an egg to the other, a characteristic that should definitely be emphasized.
Best Laptop under 2500$: Use in the office only possible to a limited extent
Although the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 offers a really phenomenal battery life, the gaming laptop is only suitable for office use to a limited extent.
The reason: Asus does without both an integrated webcam and a microphone in the notebook.
For pure gamers this may be bearable, but the lack of both components is still an absolute no-go for many potential buyers.
On the other hand, the gaming laptop offers other strengths, which are also good in everyday office life.
For example, the keyboard of the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 is one of the laptop’s highlights.
Keystrokes and spacing feel incredibly satisfying and catchy.
The same goes for the shape and workmanship of the individual keys.
During typing, there were hardly any unwanted typos in my test.
Merely the illumination of the keys doesn’t turn out quite evenly.
The touchpad also looks solid and reacts reliably to input.
In addition, unwanted touches, such as placing the ball of the thumb on the keyboard, are almost always recognized and filtered out.
Merely the input lag between the touchpad’s input and the display’s playback is a bit to get used to at first.
The operation therefore feels a bit sluggish at the start.
After a short period of getting used to it, it’s hardly noticeable, still ok for the Best Laptop under 2500$.
The built-in fingerprint sensor provided mixed results in the test.
While the recognition of the index finger often didn’t work at all and the device thus remained locked, the thumb scan worked perfectly and quickly.
In return, it’s a pity that Asus does without a slot for SD cards in the gaming laptop.
If you want to read a memory card, you’ll have to take the detour via your adapter, willy-nilly or not.
The same applies to people who want to connect their laptop via LAN. Aside from USB-C, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 also has an HDMI port, two classic USB-A and an audio combo port.
The repertoire of ports is quite impressive for the laptop’s compact design.
It’s just a pity that none of the USB-A ports have been built into the back or left of the laptop.
This way, the plug of the connected mouse is often in the way in heated firefights.
Verdict: Best Laptop under 2500$
The Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 is by far not the fastest gaming laptop on the market – but it doesn’t want to be.
The notebook makes up for its lack of performance in games in other areas – starting with the workmanship.
Everything seems to be cast from a single mold here.
No gaps, high-quality materials, stable feel – you’d almost like to call the laptop the MacBook among gaming laptops.
The AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS provides more than enough power in everyday use, even videos let me edit with the laptop without any problems.
Despite the quite powerful hardware, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15’s weight remains low.
The compact powerhouse weighs a mere 4.4 lbs. and can thus also be used on the go without any problems, as it should for the Best Laptop under 2500$.
Especially writing long texts on the laptop’s keyboard is very easy.
The keys have a fantastic feedback, reasonable spacing between them – you can even get over the lack of the number pad.
This makes working really fun.
But let’s get down to business: gaming performance.
Asus has actually almost tripped itself up here. Our model is equipped with an RTX 2060 Max-Q, which is supposed to supply a high-resolution WQHD display with sufficient pictures per second.
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that you can’t expect butter-soft 60 FPS in maximum settings in every game.
And yet – if you reduce the details or the resolution a bit, even current AAA titles like Metro Exodus or Red Dead Redemption 2 run very smoothly across the screen.
All in all, Asus impressively shows with the Zephyrus G15 what a modern gaming laptop has to look like nowadays.
Compact, light, cleanly crafted, beautiful and yet powerful and enduring.
A fantastic device that’s unparalleled – and probably that’s why it’s so relatively expensive with a price of 2,300 Dollar(RRP) in the configuration we tested.
All in all, the Best Laptop under 2500$ in this test.
2nd Best Laptop under $2500: New Apple MacBook Pro 16

Second Best Laptop under 2500$
Apple has redesigned the notebooks in its MacBook Pro line.
In a quick test, the small 13-inch notebook and the larger 15-inch model show what they can do.
Especially the smaller one trumps with very good battery life, making it the Second Best Laptop under 2500$.
A lot of money for the memory: Second Best Laptop under 2500$
The experts of Techtestreport tested the two new MacBooks in the simplest configuration.
The entry-level prices of 2,000 Dollar for the 13-inch and 2,800 Dollar for the 15-inch version are, as usual for Apple, quite steep.
There is just 256 gigabytes of SSD hard disk memory available for this, which can’t be expanded with memory cards.
But there is also the usual high-end design and excellent workmanship.
By the way: In our test database for mobile computers you’ll find the full test results and verdicts on the two new Macbooks as well as numerous features, product pictures and the price development of the devices.
Here you can also compare the Macbooks with many other laptops.
Update only for the Touch-Bar MacBooks: Second Best Laptop under 2500$
The changes compared to the previous models are essentially limited to technical details such as a new generation of Intel processors.
Interesting: In the 13-inch model, Apple has only updated the more expensive model series with the so-called “touch bar”.
This is a slim touch screen above the keyboard.
It replaces the classic function keys and can perform different functions depending on the software currently open.
Apple continues to sell the somewhat cheaper 13-inch MacBook Pro without Touch Bar from last year unchanged.
Display top, full of performance for the Second Best Laptop under 2500$
In terms of quality, the new Apple notebooks are above suspicion:
The very high-resolution displays are glossy, but have a good antireflection coating, are very bright and very colour-fast.
Both models offer plenty of computing power, and there’s nothing to complain about in terms of the runtimes of the permanently installed batteries.
Interestingly, the smaller 13 incher performs even better than the 15 incher model in continuous surfing mode with eight and a half hours at maximum screen brightness.
All in all, the new MacBook Pro 16 is our Second Place in Best Laptops under 2500$.

Best Laptops under 2500$: Buying Guide
The most important points in the short summary
Laptops are little heroes in everyday life. They meet all the requirements you would expect from a normal desktop PC. But they are more handy and easy to handle. On long flights, in the train or in a café, they can be used to check mails, watch movies or do the daily office work.
An entry-level laptop is available for under 500 Dollar. But you can’t expect real all-rounders. That’s why you should be clear beforehand what you want to use your future notebook for. Then you can adjust the hardware to the field of application.
Laptops under 250 Dollar are indeed cheap, but in this price category you can partly get mobile phones that can do more. Computing power, capacity of the hard disk and resolution are mostly only sufficient for surfing the internet and simple word processing.
The big budget problem for Best Laptops under 2500$
Before you decide to buy an entry-level laptop, you should think about the right budget.
Notebooks are available in every price range.
However, you should not expect all-purpose weapons, especially with cheaper models.
Since beginners’ laptops can only be upgraded to a limited extent anyway, one should not spend too much.
You can already get notebooks for under 200 Dollar, which are of course limited in computing power.
However, one should not set one’s budget limits too rigidly.
You can often get an entry-level laptop at a price that is slightly above your budget, but significantly better than other models that are right on budget.
But what performance can you expect for what budget?
The following table tells you how much you should spend on a good entry-level laptop.
If you are looking for a cheap laptop and want to compare many models, you may be overwhelmed by the many technical specifications.
However, we will tell you how a good laptop for beginners has to be equipped so that you can find a good all-rounder for your purposes.
The CPU of the Best Laptop under 2500$ – The heart of the laptop
As a processor, the CPU is the heart of an entry-level laptop and processes the entire computing power of the PC.
Two criteria must be taken into account: The number of cores and the clocking in gigahertz.
In models for beginners, you will usually find CPUs with two or four cores.
However, one should make sure that the capacity of the battery is adjusted to the computing power.
The more you use the CPU for programs, the more power is consumed.
Processors also have an included graphics solution.
Thus, those who don’t want to play elaborate games don’t have to resort to a model with an additional graphics card.
With a laptop you save money and use less power at the same time.
RAM – The main memory of the Best Laptop under 2500$
The main memory serves as a temporary buffer for the entry-level laptop.
Standard programs, which also include the current operating systems, today rely on a main memory with a minimum size of 4GB.
When buying a laptop for beginners, this should be the absolute minimum.
Notebooks with a RAM size of only 2GB are simply no longer up to date and quickly reach their limits even with normal applications.
The graphics card
If you are a beginner who already uses a laptop to play elaborate games or likes to edit photos and videos, you should look for a powerful graphics card, especially in the Best Laptops under 2500$.
The two leading manufacturers of graphics cards on the market are AMD and NVidia.
There is a simple rule of thumb to follow for both product lines:
The higher the number in the name, the more performance is promised.
Cheap models usually offer netbook-sized displays with a screen diagonal of 11.6 inches.
An entry-level laptop in this segment usually has a resolution of 1366×768 pixels.
However, beginners can also find displays with Full HD resolution and a screen diagonal of 15.6 inches at a reasonable price.
A laptop with a small display is particularly suitable for surfing the Internet or watching movies.
However, you should note that only a normal HD – resolution is offered.
A model with a diagonal of 15.6 inches can be used like a normal PC, as they hardly differ in the size of the work surface.
However, you should note that these notebooks are significantly heavier.
If you go for an entry-level laptop with a screen diagonal of 15.6 inches, you must urgently pay attention to the Full HD resolution of 1920×1080 pixels.
Finally, intermediate steps are also offered, for example in the form of displays with a resolution of 1600×900 pixels.
However, the dot density is much lower, so that the screen content is correspondingly smaller.
The hard disk
Especially the cheapest entry level models are equipped with a very small hard disk.
32 GB or 64 GB are the rule.
Those who use their device only for surfing and simple word processing won’t have any worries with this size.
However, it becomes problematic due to the operating system.
Windows 10 is a software that takes up almost half of the memory capacity of such a small hard disk already at the beginning.
However, some updates will follow in time.
The consequence is that you can’t keep Windows 10 up to date on an entry-level laptop with a 32 GB hard disk size.
But notebooks over 250 Dollar are partly already equipped with hard disks with a storage capacity of far more than 128 GB.
Those who want to watch movies or listen to music on a beginner’s laptop anyway should choose such a model.
The Best Laptops under 2500$ will have more than enough storage memory.
If you want to expand your hard drive space, you can use an external hard drive.
This allows you to easily store all programs and files that no longer fit on the hard drive of your entry-level laptop.
The use of various cloud models is also recommended.
Files are simply stored online so that they do not consume any storage capacity.
If necessary, you can then easily access the files you need.
Touchpad and keyboard
Even with the keyboard as well as the touchpad there are some things to consider when buying a beginner’s laptop.
However, it’s not easy to say which keyboard is the best, as this is one of the few subjective criteria of a notebook. However, you should make sure that the keyboard gives a good typing feel.
Of course, the keys should not be too small to work well with it.
How high the feedback of the individual keys should be or how far you should be able to press them in, however, is something that everyone has to decide for themselves.
It looks similar with the built-in touchpad.
It should also have the right size and be able to provide accurate input.
In any case, working with a mouse is more precise.
Cheap travel mice can be found for as little as one Dollar.
What is the rule with a keyboard from a desktop PC is only available in larger laptops:
The number pad.
This is of course not essential for the use of a beginner’s laptop, but it can make the work easier.
Similar to the mouse and hard disk, it can also be retrofitted externally.
The fan of the Best Laptops under 2500$
The distance to a mobile device is of course much smaller than to a desktop PC.
The higher the computing effort, the more the fan is loaded.
If the fan does not have the necessary power, a beginner’s laptop can quickly become hot.
This becomes unpleasant when the device is placed on the lap.
The more the fan has to work, the more noise it produces.
Small laptops with low performance often don’t have a fan, as this is not necessary.
This has a significant effect on the noise level, as such models are hardly louder than a smartphone.
What do you have to pay attention to with a gaming notebook under 2500$?
If you want to buy a gaming laptop, you should ask yourself a few questions first.
Which games do you want to play in which resolution? How often do you have to move the device from A to B? How many years do you want to use the device?
In the end the decisive factor is of course the available budget.
Performance of Best Laptops under 2500$
Core i7-9750H or the Ryzen 3750H are recommendable.
At least 8 GB RAM, better 16. The graphics card is decisive.
Full HD: GeForce GTX 1650 and GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q. WQHD: GTX 1660 Ti, RTX 2060 and RTX 2070 Max-Q. 4K-UHD:
At least RTX 2070 or RTX 2080 (Max-Q).
Resolution and refresh rate should match the graphics card: 144 Hz from GTX 1660 Ti, 240 Hz or 4K-UHD@60Hz from RTX 2070 (Max-Q).
Cooling and volume
The flatter and more compact a gaming notebook is, the less room for a comprehensive cooling solution.
With hot components, the case can also become unpleasantly warm.
Almost all devices become unpleasantly loud under load.
A high whistling tone can occur with some. Then a headset becomes unavoidable during gaming.
The battery life is negligible. It decreases indirectly proportional to the power.
Playing is not possible in battery mode because the battery can maintain unneeded voltage.
Notebook prices vary considerably within the series depending on the equipment
It’s difficult to recommend individual price categories, as notebooks of the same series can vary greatly in price depending on their equipment. Notebooks of the HP Pavilion 15 series start at 750 Dollar for the standard equipment and end at 1,350 Dollar for the top variant.
We therefore recommend the most attractive equipment variants and especially the Best Laptop under 2500$ in this test.
You must also note that the statements made in the tests regarding performance, battery life, display, emissions and temperature development do not always apply to the entire series.
For example, a notebook with RTX 2080 Max-Q becomes significantly warmer under load than a notebook with GTX 1660 Ti.
In contrast, design and workmanship are identical across the series.
We wouldn’t recommend laptops without or with a very small 128 GB SSD even in the entry level class.
Notebook display for the Best Laptops under 2500$
The following points should be observed for the display:
- Response times
- Pixel error
- Glare display
In order not to have headaches when working on the notebook after a short time, you should pay attention to the highest possible brightness values.
The same applies to the contrast. Since notebook displays are TFTs, the reaction time of the individual transistors plays an important role – slow reaction times of > 20ms cause streaks and inaccuracies on the screen when fast movements occur.
Pixel errors are annoying and can be extremely disturbing on the screen.
In case of a pixel error, a transistor lights up permanently or not at all.
To work around this problem, some notebook manufacturers offer a guarantee for the replacement of the device in case of pixel errors.
So-called glare displays offer strong color fidelity in notebooks.
The disadvantage, however, is that the user has to live with reflections.
Here, it should be considered whether a glare display is useful or an ordinary matt display is sufficient.
Notebook displays increasingly have the widescreen format 16:9.
When it comes to size, you should also decide for yourself whether you prefer a 15.4″ or a 17.1″ display.
Notebook graphic card for the Best Laptops under 2500$
Notebooks are usually equipped with graphics cards that have been specially developed for notebooks.
These do not use their own memory, but access the main memory.
This should be taken into account when buying a notebook in order to purchase a corresponding system.
But there are also graphics cards that have their own memory and can even be switched off to save power and thus extend the service life with notebook batteries.
Performance of the Best Laptops under 2500$
In order to evaluate the performance of a notebook and compare it with other notebooks, one would normally have to perform a benchmark.
However, since this is not so easy to do in the store, test reports should be read before going into the store.
Otherwise, all that’s left is a look at the processor, RAM, graphics card and hard disk memory size.
Current notebooks are increasingly offered with dual-core processors – even at low prices.
As far as the main memory is concerned, 2 GB RAM is currently the standard.
Current hard disks have a memory size of 160 GB.
Features of the Best Laptop under 2500$
Under the equipment of a notebook I will summarize some things. These include:
- Interfaces ( Bluetooth, W-LAN, USB, Firewire, LAN interface, card reader )
- Optical drives
- Operating system
With regard to interfaces, you have to decide on a system that suits you.
I can say that for me there must be at least 3 USB interfaces.
I do not use Firewire at all.
A card reader has many advantages and should be able to read all common cards. ( SD/MMC/MS/MS Pro/xD).
Bluetooth is also a great feature to transfer e.g. photos or videos from the mobile phone directly to the notebook without removing the memory card.
There should also be at least one LAN interface to connect the notebook to the internet via cable or to configure the home router for example – but every notebook known to me has a LAN port.
Optical drives – These are mostly DVD writers and should be able to play and burn all formats (+R,-R,+RW,-RW) just like the usual writers on the PC.
Under certain circumstances it may be possible that no new operating system is required (e.g. use of an older version preferred). In this case this can be saved and the costs for the notebook can be reduced.
Accessories of a notebook are bags, web-cams, a mouse, remote control, antenna for possible integrated DVB-T tuner or other software.
Mobile suitability of the Best Laptops under 2500$
As people usually buy a notebook in order to travel with it – to be mobile – this point is also very important. The following aspects are important for checking and assessing mobility:
- Battery life
Battery life depends on the performance of the system. Powerful graphics cards and processors drag heavily on battery life with a single charge. This is not the case with our Best Laptops under 2500$ tested here.
With a Dual Core processor, a battery life of more than 5 hours can be considered good.
Here, functions to deactivate features such as Bluetooth or the graphics card (to use an integrated Intel chip) are also advantageous and have a positive effect on the mobility of a notebook.
Care should be taken to ensure that the weight is not low to the detriment of workmanship.
Notebooks weighing only 4.8 lbs., for example, can only be made of light materials, which are usually not very stable.
Service of the Best Laptop under 2500$ manufacturer
Positive effects on service:
- Guarantee periods as long as possible
