Fix ‘Spotify Failed To Migrate Some Of Your Data’ Error

| |

What is Spotify?

Spotify is one of many services for music streaming:

  • It allows you to listen to songs legally on your smartphone and PC via the Internet. Meanwhile Spotify is also available as an app on many TVs.
  • Thanks to providers such as Spotify, Deezer, Tidal and Co. the download of music is no longer necessary. The music is streamed over the internet, so it is only temporarily cached. If desired, however, a download of individual songs is also possible.

How To Fix ‘Spotify Failed To Migrate Some Of Your Data’ Issue

Although Spotify created a great and innovative application and platform that revolutionized the music industry, there can sometimes be technical issues with the application which can be an annoyance for the user. But don’t worry, we are here to help you. In this Guide we will tackle the issue of Spotifiy failing to migrate user data correctly. We will explain you what’s the cause of the problem and, of course, how you can solve it (there are two possible ways how to solve the issue).

As always, as the first step you should try to apply the number one trick in troubleshooting computer problems: Go ahead and restart your computer. Sometimes there can be syncing issues of an older version of Spotify and the Spotify-Servers. Maybe Spotify just downloaded and installed an update in the background and needs to reboot in order to restart the new version of Spotify. Rebooting also helps removing any corrupt temporary data in the CPU, which can also cause this issue.

Another reason, which is a lot more common than corrupted CPU data, is an error in the registry entry. Such an issue can occur during a faulty installation. However, if that’s the issue it is easy to resolve by reinstalling the Spotify application. Just follow these steps:

Reinstalling Spotify

The quickest way to fix such a problem is by reinstalling Spotify.

  • First: Click on the Windows Symbol and search for “Windows Control Panel”.
  • Search for the submenu Applications.
  • Find Spotify.
  • Select ‘Uninstall Spotify’.
  • After successful uninstallation go to the Spotify Homepage & download the installer again.
  • Reinstall Spotify.

If the ‘Spotify failed to migrate some of your data error’ still occurs, you need to go one step further in order to solve the issue.

Last possible solution: Delete the Spotify Registry Entry

If reinstalling the software fails to fix the problem then you have to remove Spotify’s registry entries, in order to get rid of the problem. Here is how you can do that:

  • End all of the Spotify processes in the Task Manager (Use the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keyboard shortcut to open the task manager).
  • Go to the directory {your username}\AppData\Roaming\ where “your username” is your user account folder. You need to delete the complete Spotify folder inside this directory.
  • Go to the directory {your username}\AppData\Local\ where “your username” is your user account folder. Also in this directory you need to delete the complete Spotify folder from the directory.
  • When finished you need to search for ‘Apps and Features’ in the Windows menu in the bottom left of your screen.
  • Select “Apps and Features”.
  • Look for Spotify and uninstall the application.
  • Press Winkey + R to open Run and type in ‘Regedit’.
  • Copy and paste the following address in the address bar of the Registry Editor: Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\
  • Then you need to delete the Spotify entry from the registry.
  • Restart your computer and reinstall Spotify again.

Now the issue should definitely be resolved. If you still have issues you are maybe using a very old PC or Laptop. However, even then this guide should help you get rid of the problem.

Spotify can do more than just music

The offer of Spotify is huge with a offer 40 million songs.

  • Due to the cooperation with the big music labels like Universal, Warner and Sony, almost all artists are represented on Spotify. Only very small artists without a label are often not able to play.
  • Using the search function you can always search for your favorite songs, albums and artists. If you listen to certain songs over and over again, you can create your own playlists and share them with friends.
  • If you don’t want to spend time creating your own music, you can browse through Spotify’s many premade playlists. From workout to shower playlists, Spotify has the right music for every occasion.
  • In addition to music, Spotify also offers more and more audio books and podcasts. For this purpose Spotify has created a separate category.

How much does Spotify cost?

The use of Spotify is completely free.

  • All you need is a free account. The registration works with your mail address as well as comfortably via the Facebook login.
  • For 9,99 Dollar per month you get the premium subscription.
  • For students Spotify costs only 4.99 per month. As a family you benefit from Spotify Premium in the family version. Up to 6 members of a household pay here together 14,99.
  • In the Premium version many more features are available. Among other things, you can store music offline and thus protect your data volume while on the go.
  • But the biggest advantage of Spotify Premium is the lack of advertising. In order for Spotify to be able to offer the free model, advertising is played on average every 30 minutes between two songs.
  • Spotify is available as software for Windows and Mac OS as well as an app for Android and iOS.
