Tips for taking a screenshot on an HP Laptop

Tip 1: If you just want to save the picture, start the Paint drawing program that is available on every Computer or Laptop with Windows. Paste the picture from the clipboard into it. If you want to sligtly edit the image you can do this in Paint, but there are probably better programs to edit, crop, style, and add text to the image like Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft PowerPoint or GIMP. All these programs take some time to learn, but with a bit of googling it should not be a problem to edit these images in a nice way. Do not forget to save the screenshot image as PNG, Jpeg, or another format of your choice in Paint. Now you have the image available in the folder where you saved it in the step before.

Tip 2: In some image editing programs, you can also find a menu item such as File, New from Clipboard to paste the screenshot, for example in Adobe Photoshop Express. This makes it very easy to insert the image into the program so you can start editing it right after taking the screenshot on your HP Laptop.

Use Browser Add-Ons: Take and Edit Screenshots without Paint

If you want to screenshot an entire page or website and not just the area on your screen that is currently displayed, an add-on for your browser is a good alternative. These add-ons make it easy to take screenshots inside a browser and you don’t need to go the way over inserting the image in paint first before saving it, but rather save the image immediately to your hard drive.

However, you have to chose the right add-on depending on the web-browser you are using. Some Add-Ons were developed for specific browsers only. The following add-ons are good options for the most used browsers: Google’s chrome and Mozilla Firefox are mostly used on HP Laptops:

  • For Google Chrome the best screenshot add-ons are Awesome Screenshot and FireShot
  • For Mozilla Firefox the best screenshot add-ons are Aweseome Screenshot Plus, FireShot
  • Installing the add-ons is easy: Depending on the browser you are using, all you have to do is click the “Add Add-On” button.
  • You will then find the corresponding tool in the top right-hand corner of your bar. Click on the add-on and select the area you want to photograph.
  • These tools have the advantage that they take a picture of your screen where you can’t see content like your search bar and open tabs.
  • A new tab will open where you can edit your screenshot. Alternatively, you can use any other image editing program once you have saved your screenshot on your device.
  • These extensions can also be easily removed and uninstalled. The following video shows you how to do this.

  • Select “Capture” in the program interface. Now you can click on any window with the crosshairs or create a screenshot with the mouse button pressed down.

Broken Screen on HP Laptop?

Since the panels installed by HP are usually standard goods, you only have to know which one was used and find the appropriate replacement display or a compatible one.

There are of course different causes and effects why a HP laptop display can be defective

These are the most common reasons:

  • The display is cracked (the laptop has slipped out of the hand when opened)
  • The laptop display is broken (something fell on the display lid)
  • The display has stripes (the electronic control of a line or column is defective)
  • The picture flickers (The display cable is faulty or the notebook display is defective)
  • You see the content but the screen remains dark (inverter defective, inverter cable, backlight broken)
  • The picture is completely white (display control defective)

If the HP Notebook screen is not obviously defective, then of course you have to check which part of the display is causing the problem. Here are different causes of the problem:

  • The display data cable or its connector to the mainboard/display itself
  • The inverter that generates the voltage for the backlight
  • The backlight in the display itself
  • The electronic control of the display
  • The connection cable from the inverter to the mainboard
  • The monitor output on the mainboard for connecting the display
  • The graphics card on the mainboard

If the HP Notebook Display’s backlight is defective, the lamp itself could be replaced. However, replacing the defective backlight in the HP display is not easy. That is becuase you need extremely clean room conditions so that no dust gets between the display layers and also because you need to fit the tube exactly. There are many small parts needed to close the display properly and tight. If you find yourself in the situation to have a broken screen on an HP Laptop you should seek professional help in order to fix it again. Doing it yourself can cause more harm.
